Markus Dupree Goldson, aka "District Son", 41, of Upper Marlboro, MD, departed this life on Saturday, June 1, 2024.  Markus was born in New Haven, CT on October 31, 1982, to Mark A. Tyson and Angela T. Goldson Johnson.

His earlier education was with River Terrace Elementary School, Washington, DC and Eastern High School, Washington DC.  He was proud of his River Terrace community and established a lifelong bond with his River Terrace family.  After moving to CO, Markus attended Thunder Ridge High School, Highlands Ranch, CO and the Arapahoe Community College, Littleton, CO.

Markus had a passion for football and possessed a natural ability for it.  While still living in DC, he played football for the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Club #14 and Marshall Heights Pop Warner League.  While he had established a lifelong bond with his River Terrace family, he also had a lifelong bond with his brothers and sisters of #14 and Marshall Heights.  To continue with his passion for football, Markus became a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.

Markus worked as a Pharmacy Technician for Walgreens and Costco for several years.  After returning to MD, he resumed working for Costco. While with both companies, he made friends and acquaintances with the staff.

Renowned for his jovial spirit and infectious smile, Markus was a beacon of light. He shared lots of compassion, kindness, laughter, and love. Upon his return to DC to be with his "fam" as he affectionately stated, he gave a beautiful bouquet of lilies to his mother, every week.

Markus shared the Word of God through texting scriptures (daily), bible studies, prayers, and his Spiritual Warfare CD.  He was very passionate and excited about his spiritual life and his love for God.  Many persons were impacted by the passion and excitement he exhibited.  In honoring the life and legacy of Markus, we pay tribute to a young man whose laughter and love brightened the lives of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.  His remarkable journey embodies a legacy of faith and joy that will be cherished forever.

Markus was preceded in death by his dad Mark A. Tyson; his maternal grandparents Bertram and Carolyn Goldson; paternal grandparents James and Malnor Gray; and Uncle Butchie.  Markus leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory: mother Angela T. Goldson Johnson; his Colorado mother Darci Tyson; sisters Cydney and Jenna Tyson; niece Adaleena Ibarra; nephew Javier Ibarra; favorite aunt Cloressa Goldson-Gondwe (Andrew); uncles Darnell Goldson (Tosha); Philip Goldson; Charles Goldson (Tamika); Bertram Goldson III (Chanelle); Bruce Tyson (Sharon); and Eric Gray (Niki); bonus dad Marvin Johnson, Sr.; bonus brother Marvin Johnson, Jr.; godmother Francoise Gedepoh; godson Derrick Koonce, Jr.; and a multitude of cousins, family, and friends.

I only knew Markus for brief moments in life. I got to hang out with him in high school, and then with life as it is, I didn’t really run into him again until about 20 years later at Costco to pick up a prescription. I didn’t recognize him at first but he recognized me, and made a point to not just let me walk away, thank you for that Markus! Then we just got to chat it up for a bit, and it was a great moment. I honestly can’t remember anything else from that day other than that moment. I told my wife how that interaction just made my whole day. He just exuded genuine kindness, happiness, calmnes…

Markus with a “k” he would always say because he knew his prescence was important and undeniably impactful. His smile and contagious laughter would make even the dullest moments shine with brillance. As his pharmacist, I had the honor of working beside him for nearly a decade at Walgreens and I respected his intelligence, creativity, and his compassion. His name was held in high regard and he knew no stranger. Markus loved the Lord and allowed God to evolve him into something so beautiful. It gives me peace knowing that even though I will miss seeing his smiling face, sharing his sincere hugs, or hearing the fire of his lyrics, I know he is Home.. My condolences to Matkus…
