Obituary

Eloyd Robinson Jr, affectionately known as "Sonny" was born November 25, 1930 in Danville, VA. The oldest of two brothers to the late Eloyd Robinson Sr. and Hallie Link Robinson.

He obtained his education in Danville, Va public schools system where he attended Langston High School circa 1947. It was then, at the age of 14 he developed his love for baseball.  He began his baseball career with The Danville City Aces as a child and by the age 18 he joined The National Negro Leagues Homestead Grays in 1948.

In 1963, Eloyd moved to the Washington D.C. area to begin his career in Corrections where he worked between the D.C. Department of Corrections and the Department of Corrections in Lorton, VA. After his career in public safety he began working in residential property management.

On January 25th 1975, Eloyd met the love of his life Clara Spinner who would later become his bride. They would go on to share over four decades of blissful love and holy matrimony.

Known for his timeless smile and jokeful personality, Eloyd had a heart for people. While he was good at nearly every major sport, he equally knew his way around a card table from spades to bidwhisk. Eloyd had a keen artistic eye that would oftentimes lead him to decorating and eventually redecorating his home that would be the “place to be '' during one of his cookouts or parties.

In humble submission to God’s perfect will, on January 21, 2022 with peace in his heart; God stretched forth his almighty hand and Eloyd slipped away into that sweet by and by.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his devoted wife Clara M Robinson who he loved and cherished. One daughter: Ygerne Robinson; Four Sons: David Robinson (Joy), Kevin Robinson (Rinauda), Michael Spinner (Joanne) and James Bowe. Eight Grandchildren; Five Great Grandchildren; Brother-in-laws: (Late) Jack Spinner (Rose), Odell Spinner, Kelvin Tarver (Rose), and Keith Tarver, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Eloyd is preceded in death by his parents Eloyd Robinson Sr. and Hallie Link Robinson and brother David “Poochie” Robinson.
