Obituary
Alice Willette (White) Bell was born on May 11, 1937, the youngest of four children to the late William Henry White and Cordelia Henson White in Washington D.C. Alice was educated in the D.C. Public School system before graduating from Martha Washington High School in 1955.
In the Summer of 1955, Alice married the love of her life George D. Bell during his weekend liberty before his deployment in the United States Navy. As their family grew, Alice was a dedicated homemaker until George was able to return home to his dear “Philip’s Court.”
When Alice initially joined the workforce she began as a substitute teacher at Syphax Elementary School which was the first black elementary school in Washington D.C. In 1970, Alice joined the staff of U.S. News and World Report as a librarian, where she worked until 1980.
Alice loved her soap operas, game shows, and westerns. She had a very spirited sense of humor and loved to laugh. She enjoyed attending Congress Heights Wellness Center with her brother Clyde. She was a very loyal member of her church - where she attended for over 20 years. Alice was a great chef - her most requested dish was cabbage and her famous coconut pineapple upside down cake that she always made for her son Keith. But none of those things brought her more joy than taking care of her grandchildren who were the center of her world.
On August 14, 2021 with peace in her heart and surrounded by her family, God stretched forth his almighty hand; Alice slipped
away into that sweet by and by.
Alice leaves to cherish her precious memory, her devoted husband of 66 years George Bell. Her children: George (Cecilia), Keith (Iris), Cheryl, Kevin (Monica). Her brother: William “Buddy” White. 15 Grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a bonus daughter JuVonne, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Her sons: William and Terence “Terry”. Her brothers: Clyde and Howard as well as her grandson Keith.
